HCA play workshops for Chinese educators

March 2023

52 Chinese educators and kindergarten managers were ready by the screen when we welcomed the second course of fairy tale play workshops in March. Last year, as part of the project “Fairytale Play Communities with Inspiration from H.C. Andersen” we conducted play workshops for pedagogues in Danish day care. This year, the time has come for involving Chinese educators, who will partly listen to presentations and hear about our experiences, partly give feedback and tell us about their work experience with H.C. Andersen's fairy tales.

Focus on interaction

The three-hour play workshops are a mixture of singing, music, presentations and video examples. Benedicte Riis delivers songs and music, and despite screens, cables and several thousand kilometers of distance, everybody still succeed in creating an inspiring, fun and warm atmosphere. An important element is the participation of the Danish educators who participated in workshops last year. Most recently, Jeanette from Skovlund Kindergarten talked about how she works with Hans Christian Andersen, and how she among other fairy tales, also tells The Ugly Duckling to the very young children, while making use of various props.

Important feedback

The educators participating in the fairy tale play workshops come from all over China, and they have great interest in Danish pedagogy. During the time in between the coming workshops, they will work with H.C. Andersen’s fairy tales and share their experiences with us. At the upcoming play workshops, it will then to a greater extent be the Chinese educators who talk about their experiences.

The project is managed by Learn For Life (project manager),

Gitte Bork from Lege&Relationsprakis (Play&Relationship practice), and Benedicte Riis
