Global coffee giant celebrates Christmas with Hans Christian Andersen in China
The beautiful paper cuttings created by Hans Christian Andersen, were introduced to a huge audience during fall of 2023, as Starbucks in China had dedicated the months of November and December to honor the fairytale poet by having his amazing paper cuttings adorn cups, glasses, and bowls in the 6,500 Starbucks cafes in China.
And how did it happen? Well, the world is small and full of coincidences. Chinese theater director William Yip's classmate is the vice president at Starbucks. She has heard about William's trips to Odense and his fascination of Andersen. William introduced her to Learn for Life, and we sent her a range of information about Andersen’s paper cuttings, his fairy tales about winter, etc., which helped to inspire the winter campaign. We also made a connection to the H.C. Andersen Museum in Odense. The museum helped with photos of paper cuttings and granted Starbucks the right to use the fairytale poet's famous signature, which now appears on cups, glasses, plates, etc. in the Chinese Starbucks cafes.
